Maurice A. Greenwood RCA

Maurice was born in Rochdale, Lancashire in 1930. Having drawn and painted for as long as he can remember. His first exhibited work as a school boy, was a poster for the Salute the Soldier week, on display in Rochdale Town Hall. He was encouraged, and advised from an early age, by the well known Lancashire Artist, Stanley Warburton, and is still much inspired by his work. His working career began in 1944 working for a large engineering firm as an apprentice tool maker, later moving into the drawing office. During this period he attended evening classes at Rochdale and Bury Art Colleges. In 1960 he left the drawing office as Head Draughtsman, and moved to Wales.

Before and after being elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy, he was encouraged and inspired by Peter Burgess Shorrocks, Edwin Forrest, Donald McIntyre and Roy Ostle. Since 1982 he has taught Art and Design for Llandrillo College, The University of Wales, The W.E.A., Activity Holiday art courses and, for the last eight years, as a tutor on cruise liners.

Maurice works in a loose Impressionistic way, his work showing influences of man in the landscape, the farmers and the industrialists. He likes his work to speak for itself, without the need for explanation. His work has been exhibited in many public and private galleries in Wales and England and in many private and public collections in the U.K. and abroad.
